Le Faux Soir is the closing film of Film Fest Gent

The Screen Flanders-supported film Le Faux Soir by Michaël R. Roskam is the official closing film of the 53rd edition of Film Fest Gent. In the presence of the cast and crew, the film will close the festival on Saturday 17 October. The film had its world premiere in Toronto and will also close the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Coward by Lukas Dhont has been selected by an independent jury as Belgium’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards. This marks the third consecutive time that a film by Lukas Dhont represents Belgium in the Oscars race, following Girl (2018) and Close (2022).

Le Faux Soir, the new film by Michaël R. Roskam, and Coward by Lukas Dhont have been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, 10–20 September). Le Faux Soir will have its world premiere there, whilst Coward will have its North American premiere, both as part of the Special Presentations programme.

Coward opens Film Fest Gent

Coward, Lukas Dhont’s third feature film, is the official opening film of the 53rd edition of Film Fest Gent. On Wednesday 7 October, Dhont will kick off the international film festival for the third time. Coward, which previously won awards at the Cannes Film Festival, follows young soldiers trying to keep their spirits up in the trenches during the First World War.

Attack On Paradise selected for Fantasia Festival

The action film Attack On Paradise by Said Boumazoughe and Bob Colaers has been selected for the Fantasia Festival in Montréal, Canada (16 July–2 August). The film will have its world premiere there in the Horizon section. Fantasia is one of the most important and leading international film festivals for genre films.

Nine fiction films are receiving funding within the first call of 2026: Amy, Anochece (Lorca), Darlings!, Scrumple (Floddertje), Oh Lovely Belgium, Paradiso, Postcard, Shiny New World and Strokes of Madness. In addition, Screen Flanders is also investing in two animated films (Tummy Tom's Spring Surprise and Melvile), three drama series (Clash, Daughters and We Are Family) and one animated series (Olga).
