Apply for support

Screen Flanders applications can only be made in response to an open call. The application file must be submitted between the opening of the call and the 12:00 deadline for that call. No further changes may be made to the online application file after the submission date. Below you can find an overview with the different steps for an online application.

Online application

Online applications can only be submitted by Belgian independent producers meeting all the selection criteria and must be submitted in Dutch.
Access to the online application system is managed through Vlaams Toegangsbeheer (Flemish Access Management) and can be done in various ways (itsme, eID and card reader, security code by text, etc.). Please note that login is restricted to the legal representatives of the production company. They may assign rights to an employee to file a support application on behalf of the company. When the employee leaves the company, the rights must be revoked in Toegangsbeheer (Access Management). More information about rights management can be found on the site of Vlaams Toegangsbeheer (Flemish Access Management).

In addition to entering the account number of the applicant-company, you will need to upload a bank certificate. Be sure to request this from your bank in good time.

The application consists of several steps:

  • Company
  • Contact
  • Requirements
  • Audiovisual work
  • Cultural test
  • Financing
  • Receipts
  • Annexes
  • Statement on Honour

Before beginning your application, please read our user guideline. It provides a screen-by-screen display of the information you will need to enter or upload and enables you to prepare your application as efficiently as possible.

Compulsory attachments

To give a comprehensive overview of your project you must include several attachments in your online application. These are uploaded in the penultimate step of the online application and are an integral part of the application.

The project budget, consisting of an expenditure list and details of the expenditure headings, must reflect the financial situation of the entire project and not only the Flemish, Belgian or eligible part. The project budget must be completed in the Screen Flanders Excel template (see below)

You can complete the financing plan under step five of your digital application. In doing so, you must upload the corresponding dated and all-party signed document for each confirmed source of funding.

If the audiovisual work for which you are submitting a support application is based on another existing work or IP, you have two options:

  • You upload a digital copy of the original work as an attachment.
  • Before the deadline, you schedule an appointment to hand in a physical copy at the Marie-Elisabeth Belpaire building, Simon Bolivarlaan 17 in Brussels. You can also send the documents by post to the following address:

Intake interview

If you consider applying for funding, we highly recommend scheduling a preliminary appointment with Screen Flanders coordinator Katrien Maes. Such an interview is not mandatory but can result in very useful information, such as whether or not a given source of financing will be considered as confirmed. The aim is to give every project a favourable starting position.

Admissibility test

An application is admissible if all conditions have been fully satisfied. Communication on the admissibility of a submitted application will be sent by email from email hidden; JavaScript is required. Please add this email address as a safe sender to your contacts to ensure proper receipt. We also recommend checking your spam folder on a regular basis.

Hearing and assessment

Screen Flanders is a selective support measure consisting of a jury of both economic and cultural experts assessing the applications based on qualitative and quantitative criteria, which can be consulted in the Screen Flanders manual. These criteria focus mainly on the economic potential of the project and the impact of the production on the Flanders audiovisual industry.

Prior to this assessment, you can come and present your project to the jury at a hearing. The available funding of that call is then awarded to the highest-ranking projects in descending order until exhaustion of the funds.

VLAIO will notify you of the decision as soon as possible, whether positive or negative, through your company’s eBox Enterprise.
