Special Mention for Putain at Séries Mania

Putain received a special mention within the strictly curated International Panorama competition at the prestigious Séries Mania Festival. The international jury praised Putain for its unfiltered portrait of Brussels youth, the authenticity of its cast and its powerful audiovisual style. The series managed to touch the jury with its raw energy, social engagement and unique soundtrack.

Putain tells the story of Brussels-based Gigi and his friends Rania, Gregory, Yves and Zola. When Gigi discovers that his mother Anaïs is dating again with her ex Fabrice, with whom she shared a drug addiction besides love in the past, he presents her with an ultimatum: her son or her lover. When Anaïs refuses to answer, Gigi chooses to leave the house. Falling back on his friends, a new chapter in his life unexpectedly begins.

The series is currently available exclusively on Streamz in Belgium and on Videoland in the Netherlands. On the French-speaking side of Belgium, the series will soon be available on Proximus and BeTv.

The idea behind Putain came from Frederik Daem & Gorik van Oudheusden. It was directed by Deben Van Dam and the screenplay was developed by Frederik Daem, Deben Van Dam and Nadège Bibo-Tansia. Curated and assembled by Pregnant Guy, the soundtrack is an authentic Brussels mix.

The cast combines emerging Brussels talent with established names, including Liam Jacqmin, Liesa Van der Aa, Felix Heremans, Hind, Laura Darnovsky, Roda Fawaz, Gorik van Oudheusden, Victoria Djamusala, Martha da Rossa Canga Antonio, Tijmen Govaerts, Maaike Neuville, Tom Vermeir, Anemone Valcke and Pierre Boeraeve.

Putain is a production by Kato Maes and Kristoffel Mertens for Panenka, in collaboration with Streamz and Videoland.

Putain came about with the support of the VAF/Mediafonds of Flemish Media Minister Cieltje Van Achter. In addition, the economic fund Screen Flanders, an initiative under the authority of Flemish Minister of Economy Matthias Diependaele and Flemish Minister of Culture Caroline Gennez, invested in the production.
