News 06.10.2025

The Flemish feature film Skiff by Cecilia Verheyden has been invited to the youth film section of the upcoming edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (7-23 November 2025).

The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is the most important international film festival in the Baltic States and a springboard to international co-production and distribution in Northern Europe.

Still from Skiff, Cecilia Verheyden (2025)

Skiff is the new feature film by Cecilia Verheyden, director of Ferry, Rough Diamonds and Malditos, among others. She wrote the screenplay for this personal story in collaboration with Vincent Vanneste.

In Skiff, we follow fifteen-year-old Malou, who grows up in a small community where she excels at the local rowing club. While her mother is absent and she is bullied by her fellow rowers, her brother Max is the only person she can occasionally confide in. When Malou develops feelings for Max's girlfriend Nouria, a confusing love triangle ensues. In a summer full of emotions, Malou must face her true self, even if it means losing her beloved brother.

The leading roles in Skiff are played by talented newcomers Femke Vanhove and Lina Miftah, with supporting roles by Natali Broods and Jeroen Van der Ven.

Skiff
is a production by Elisa Heene for Mirage, in co-production with the Dutch Lemming Film, the Swedish Grand Slam and the Dardenne brothers' production company Les Films du Fleuve.

Kinepolis Film Distribution (KFD) will release Skiff in our cinemas on 4 February 2026. The French company Outplay Films represents the international rights to the production.

Skiff
was made with the support of the VAF/Film Fund and Screen Flanders, an initiative of VLAIO in collaboration with the VAF.
