Results call 1 - 2023

News 06.06.2023

Screen Flanders is investing 2 million euros in eight new audiovisual productions, according to an announcement today by Flemish Minister of Economy Jo Brouns. These productions will generate almost 17 million euros (to be precise, 16,711,379 euros) in eligible audiovisual expenditure in the Flanders Region. The support awarded within this call varies between 100,000 euros and 400,000 euros per project.

Three feature films will receive support within the call: the live-action films Skiff and The Weeping Walk, as well as the animated feature Juul. In addition, five fiction series can also count on support: Moresnet, How To Kill Your Sister, Arcadia season 2 and the international co-productions State Of Happiness season 3 and Elixir. Of the eight supported projects, six are majority Flemish and two are minority Flemish productions.

Our Flemish audiovisual productions are praised worldwide for their high quality. The harvest from this call is already promising: from tender auteur films and a unique Flemish artistic animated feature, to high-end homegrown fiction series and international co-productions. With this support, we want to put Flanders permanently on the map as a creative and attractive audiovisual region, and ensure additional employment and further professionalisation of the sector.

Juul
Juul is a majority Flemish artistic animated feature. Seventeen-year-old circus girl Juul falls into a coma after a failed act and is declared braindead. Her father Bor performs with her as a living puppet. The inner fury of Juul, who is still conscious, grows and in protest to what is happening, she slowly becomes porcelain. Young production company Mirage's fiction film Skiff is written by Cecilia Verheyden and Vincent Vanneste. Cecilia Verheyden (Ferry) also directs. Shooting will take place in Willebroek, among other places, with a predominantly female team.
