The Works International secures key sales on Erik Van Looy’s thriller The Prime Minister
The Works International today announced the sale of tense action thriller The Prime Minister to Flins y Piniculas for Spain. The film has also been sold to Square One for Germany, Kinepolis Film Distribution (KFD) for Belgium and Dutch FilmWorks for the Netherlands.
Directed by Erik Van Looy (Loft, The Alzheimer Case), written by Van Looy and Carl Joos in collaboration with Robin Pront and produced by Hilde De Laere (Loft, The Alzheimer Case), The Prime Minister stars Koen de Bouw (Loft, The Alzheimer Case), Dirk Roofthooft (Loft, The Alzheimer Case), Saskia Reeves (Wolf Hall) and Adam Godley (BFG, The Theory of Everything).
On his way to a summit meeting in Brussels, the Belgian Prime Minister’s car is hijacked, his driver killed and the PM himself kidnapped. Soon, the Prime Minister learns that his wife and children are also being held hostage. They will only survive if he kills the person he is due to meet at 3pm - who just happens to be the President of the United States...
Director Van Looy said: “I have always dreamed of making a James Bond kind of movie and I think we have succeeded in doing so. I’m convinced The Prime Minister will become a thriller which is even more compelling and surprising than The Alzheimer Case and Loft.”
The Prime Minister is an FBO film in co-production with Woestijnvis, Millstreet Films and SBS. KFD will release it in Belgium on October 26. The film received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Sven Gatz and was also backed by the Screen Flanders economic fund, under the aegis of Flemish Economic Affairs Minister Philippe Muyters and Cultural Affairs Minister Gatz.
