The Ardennes to represent Belgium in Academy Awards® race
Robin Pront's The Ardennes is to represent Belgium this year as the official submission for the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film. Starring Veerle Baetens (The Broken Circle Breakdown), Jeroen Perceval (Bullhead) and Kevin Janssens, the film is produced by Savage Film's Bart Van Langendonck who produced Michaël R. Roskam's 2012 Oscar® nominated Bullhead. Roskam is associate producer.
The Ardennes received its world première as part of the Discovery programme at last year's Toronto International Film Festival. Last week it was announced that the film also features on the shortlist for the European Film Awards. With a total of 10 nominations, in all major categories, The Ardennes is the frontrunner at the local Oscar equivalents, the Ensor Awards, which are to be presented in the Belgian City of Ostend on September 16.
In The Ardennes, a brutal robbery goes hopelessly wrong. Dave, one of the two robbers, manages to run off leaving his brother Kenneth behind. Four years later, Kenneth is released from prison and much has changed. Dave has his life back on track and is trying to help Kenneth wherever possible, but is witnessing how his highly-strung brother tries to win back his ex-girlfriend Sylvie.
DOP is Robrecht Heyvaert (Black), with Alain Dessauvage (Bullhead) signing as editor. Savage Film partner Michaël R. Roskam (Bullhead, The Drop) is associated producer.
Pront's feature film debut, The Ardennes is represented internationally by Attraction Distribution. US distributor Film Movement plans a theatrical release this fall.
