Matteo Simoni is one of the 2018 European Shooting Stars

Matteo Simoni has been picked as one of the Shooting Stars, a selection of 10 up-and-coming actors from all over Europe who will be in the spotlight at the Berlin International Film Festival. He follows in the footsteps of international film and TV stars such as Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig, Jérémie Renier and Matthias Schoenaerts, who were all Shooting Stars earlier in their careers.

Matteo Simoni (born 1987) is a versatile actor from Flanders active in theatre, film and television. He is well-known locally for his lead roles in the hit series Safety First and in Stijn Coninx’s feature Marina, for which he was nominated for a Best Actor Ensor. More recently, he played a leading role in the International Emmy-nominated TV series Callboys. In 2018, Simoni will play the lead in De bende van Jan de Lichte, a new TV series directed by Robin Pront, as well as in Gangsta, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s long-awaited third feature.

Simoni will share the Shooting Stars limelight with Matilda de Angelis (Italy), Alba August (Sweden), Michaela Coel (UK), Eili Harboe (Norway), Irakli Kvirikadze (Georgia), Franz Rogowski (Germany), Jonas Smulders (Netherlands), Réka Tenki (Hungary) and Luna Wedler (Switzerland). The Shooting Stars will be presented to the film industry, public and international press during the 68th Berlin International Film Festival (15-25 February, 2018), where they will also take part in a special workshop programme.
