King of the Belgians and Layla M. invited to Les Arcs

King of the Belgians, directed by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, has been selected for the European Film Festival in Les Arcs (10-17 December). The film will celebrate its 10th festival selection as part of the Playtime programme. The festival line-up also includes Layla M., a co-production with Flanders.

Les Arcs’ Playtime section, which explores what European entertainment has to offer, includes King of the Belgians, the new film from Brosens and Woodworth whose previous effort, The Fifth Season, won no less than three awards there in 2012. That year, the pair also presented King of the Belgians as a project in development in the festival’s Co-Production Village.

King of the Belgians premiered in Venice, followed by invitations to such festivals as Busan, Hamburg, Ghent, Thessaloniki, Valladolid, Antalya and Sao Paolo. Bo Films produced, with Be for Films handling foreign sales.

Featuring in Official Competition is Layla M. of Dutch director Mijke de Jong. The film, which focusses on a Muslim woman’s radicalization in Amsterdam, was co-produced for Flanders by Menuet.

King of the Belgians and Layla M. received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Sven Gatz and the economic fund Screen Flanders, under the aegis of Flemish Economic Affairs Minister Philippe Muyters and Cultural Affairs Minister Gatz.
