Cafard competing in Holland
Jan Bultheel’s animated film Cafard has been selected for the International Feature Film Competition at the Holland Animation Film Festival, set to run 16-20 March in Utrecht. Four co-productions with Flanders have also been selected for the Festival’s Short Film programme.
Cafard starts in 1914. While Jean Mordant is away winning the title of Wrestling Champion of the World in Buenos Aires, his daughter Mimi is raped by German soldiers in Ostend. Determined to avenge this crime, Jean enrols in the prestigious ACM (Armoured Car Division) and embarks on a dramatic journey that will ultimately take him right round the world.
The film is one of nine features competing in the Holland Animation Film Festival’s International Competition and marks the Dutch premiere for Cafard after festival screenings in Ostend, Busan, Montreal, Gijón and Arras. Arielle Sleutel produced for Tondo Films.
Cafard received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Sven Gatz and was also backed by the Screen Flanders economic fund, under the aegis of Flemish Economic Affairs Minister Philippe Muyters and Cultural Affairs Minister Gatz.
