Bert Scholiers starts shooting his debut feature

Shooting on Bert Scholiers’s debut feature Charlie & Hannah’s Grand Night Out has started in Antwerp. The feature, which stars Evelien Bosmans and Daphne Wellens, is set to become one of the first Flemish ‘mumblecore’ comedies.

Charlie & Hannah’s Grand Night Out is an ode to the nonchalant, care-free life of young adults with too much time on their hands and not enough credit on their cell phones. The film starts on a regular Friday night in the life of two people in their twenties living in Antwerp. It’s a film about lovers, work, sex, exes, studying and a lot of red wine - not to mention a deranged tale about getting lost at the North Pole, seduction in a black hole and escaping Satan.

Bert Scholiers wrote the script, which in 2014 was selected for CineMart, the international co-production market of the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

The cast is headed by Evelien Bosmans (Cub, Marina, Halfway) and Daphne Wellens (Coppers), alongside Frances Lefebure (Amigos, Brothers United), Patrick Vervueren (De Ridder), Sam Bogaerts (The Bunker, Café Derby) and Astrid Haerens. Hans Bruch Jr, known for his work on the features of Gust Van den Berghe and The Fifth Season by Brosens & Woodworth, is the DOP; and David Verdurme (Lucifer, I’m The Same I’m An Other) is the editor.

Charlie & Hannah’s Grand Night Out is a production of Minds Meet (Lost Persons Area, Lucifer) in co-production with the Brussels-based Altitude100. The film received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Sven Gatz and was also backed by the Screen Flanders economic fund, under the aegis of Flemish Economic Affairs Minister Philippe Muyters and Cultural Affairs Minister Gatz.
